BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The County has conducted a nationwide recruitment for the position of Director of Parks. Nicholas Calderon has been nominated by the County Manager as the best candidate for this position based on his nearly nine years of experience with the County, which includes serving first as a Senior Legislative Aide, Real Property Manager and most recently Assistant Director of Parks. He holds a master’s degree in public administration. Mr. Calderon’s knowledge of the Parks system, strategic perspective, collaborative approach and extensive leadership experience will benefit San Mateo County.
The Charter requires the Board of Supervisors to confirm appointments of department heads nominated by the County Manager.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Mr. Calderon will start at the Director of Parks Step A level. The compensation and benefits for this position are set forth in the County’s Resolution establishing the salary and benefits for the unrepresented Management Employees of the County approved by this Board in January of 2019.
