BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo County Arts Commission was created to promote and encourage the arts, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, to prepare and update the County’s strategic and cultural plan, and act as a liaison with arts organizations in order to ensure collaboration and coordination related to culture and art activities in San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:

Kimberly Gordon is being recommended to represent District 2 for an initial partial term ending December 31, 2022, for a seat that was vacated by former commission member Robin Rodricks who now serves as the Director of the Arts Commission.  In her capacity as the Peninsula Jewish Community Center’s (PJCC) Cultural Arts Director, Ms. Gordon has curated and overseen the installation of numerous shows in their gallery and has been instrumental in bringing a great number of live performance events to the PJCC.  Ms. Gordon has received a formal education and training in theater and not-for-profit arts management.  In addition, she has a keen interest in the need for accessible and abundant arts programs in public schools.

FISCAL IMPACT:
