BACKGROUND:
Your Board has adopted similar resolutions designating parking restrictions.
Section 22507 et seq. of the California Vehicle Code and Section 7.30.010 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code provides that local authorities may prohibit or restrict the stopping, parking or standing of vehicles by resolution or ordinance.
The Department of Public Works (Department) received a request from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Water Department (SFPUC -Water) for no parking zones adjacent to the driveway approach of their property at 250 F street in the unincorporated area of Colma.
Staff investigated the request and determined that "No Parking" zones are warranted at this location. The SFPUC -Water provides wholesale water to approximately 2.7 million customers in the Bay Area. Water well stations at 250 F street receive several weekly chemical deliveries from large truck-tractor semi-trailers. These vehicles have a large turning radius that require the additional clearance adjacent to the driveway approach. Patrons to BART who park their vehicles near the driveway inhibit access to this facility.
DISCUSSION:
The Department has evaluated the request and determined that the proposed parking restrictions along 'F' Street would benefit the SFPUC and the community. The Department recommends adoption of the resolution to restrict parking adjacent to the SFPUC - Water facility driveway.
