BACKGROUND:
The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.
Our Employee of the Month for September 2019 is Brian Wong, a Deputy County Counsel IV, in the County Counsel's Office.
DISCUSSION:
Brian has been working for the County over 10 years. Brian provides valuable legal advice, research, representation, and assistance on complex issues and most often these requests are made within a very short time period. Brian is extremely responsible, courteous, resourceful and dedicated to his work. He is adept at deescalating the most difficult items and coming up with workable solutions.
Brian has a keen ability to read complex documents, synthesize the information and communicate his thoughts back to his clients in a clear and thoughtful manner. He has successfully defended Public Works on a variety of claims that has saved the County millions of dollars. Brian's calm demeanor, command of subject matter, and his drive to seek fair and reasonable solutions to issues has made him an asset to the County and for Public Works, one of his biggest fans.
Recently, Brian also spent over a year and a half negotiating a franchise agreement for the Office of Sustainability with the solid waste hauler. He ensured that the necessary language to address issues that were important to the department and to the ratepayers were addressed in the negotiations. His intellectual strength, wittiness and great humor assisted in finding a workable solution and met very tight deadlines.
