BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This includes services for gastroenterology (GI) disorders and the management and supervision of those services. Dr. Hui has served as a gastroenterologist at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for over 30 years as part of the San Mateo Multispecialty Physician Group (SMMP).

DISCUSSION:
Dr. Hui will continue to provide GI services as an individual provider and provide a minimum of six days of services per month.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form. This agreement is coming to your Board late due to protracted negotiations.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing basic GI services to SMMC patients. It is anticipated that the current waitlist for GI studies will be reduced by 10 percent.
