BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This care includes urology related services, such as treating disorders of the kidney, urethral tract, and bladder. Dr. David Martin has served as San Mateo Medical Center's (SMMC) Urology Medical Director since October 2012.

DISCUSSION:
Dr. Martin has agreed to continue as Urology Medical Director, in addition to providing four half-day urology clinic blocks per week and two half-day surgery blocks per week.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing County residents access to urology services. It is anticipated that 100 percent of all patients diagnosed with kidney stones will receive lithotripsy treatment within 24 hours of the diagnosis.
