BACKGROUND:
In 2018, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) entered into an agreement with The Healthy Teen Project, Inc. (HTP) to provide eating disorders services to clients. At that time, BHRS identified that there was a need to fill a service gap for severely mentally ill youth and adolescent clients that were diagnosed with moderate to severe eating disorders, as defined in the DSM-5, that required a more specialized and intensive level of treatment. Moreover, no BHRS clinic or program had effectively addressed the comprehensive behavioral, dietary, and medical needs associated with moderate to severe eating disorders. BHRS reached out to several local providers. HTP, Center for Discovery, and Cielo House were the only providers that met the requirements to provide comprehensive and specialized treatment for mental health clients diagnosed with eating disorders such as: anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and eating disorders not otherwise specified.

DISCUSSION:
HTP is currently providing residential treatment to youth and adolescent clients in the county. Services range from nutritional assessments, comprehensive treatment plans, close supervision, dietary counseling, and individual and family counseling. Due to identification of a...
