Subject: Agreement with Sadhanandham Tivakaran, MD to Provide Gastroenterology Services

RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Sadhanandham Tivakaran, MD to provide gastroenterology services for the term of April 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020, for an amount not to exceed $210,000.

body
BACKGROUND:
Dr. Tivakaran has been providing gastroenterology (GI) procedure services, primary endoscopy, for San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since October 2018. With the aging population of SMMC's patients, there has been a dramatic increase in the medical need for endoscopy services.

DISCUSSION:
Under the terms of the agreement, Dr. Tivakaran will provide two days per week of GI procedures to meet the current demand and address the back log of patients requiring this service.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form. The contract is late due to prolonged negotiations with Dr. Tivakaran.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing San Mateo County residents with access to basic GI services. It is anticipated that the wait list for GI procedures will be reduced by 30%.
