BACKGROUND:
On April 3, 2017, the County entered into an architectural design service agreement with KMD Architects to provide construction documents for the renovation of the Children's Receiving Home, which must be completed by June 30, 2018. The renovation involves creating new rooms and modifying existing spaces to provide therapy to the children residing in the Receiving Home, as required by the State's Continuum of Care Reform to operate the facility as a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP).

On November 7, 2017, KMD Architects completed construction documents, which was submitted for a building permit. KMD Architects is currently going through a second round of plan check comments to secure a building permit.

DISCUSSION:
The Department of Public Works recommends your Board approve the increase to the contract amount and maintain KMD Architects, as the architect of record, to provide additional design services needed due to changes in the project's design and construction administration during the renovation project, which was not included in the original scope of work.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

Approval of this action will contribute to the Shared Vision 2025 of a Healthy Community by improving transitional and displaced care services for children.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this amendment will increase the contract by an additional $20,000 to a new, not-to-exceed amount of $118,000. Funding is from Measure K Funds. There ar...
