BACKGROUND:
The California Department of Public Health California Immunization Branch (CDPHIZB) provides funding to local health departments to ensure immunization program management, service delivery, population assessment, surveillance and outbreak control, provider quality assurance, consumer information, immunization data tracking, and vaccine management. CDPHIZB has funded the San Mateo County Immunization Program for more than 20 years, providing outreach and education to the community and health care practitioners regarding the importance of complete and timely administration of vaccines as recommended by the Center for Disease Control.

DISCUSSION:
The San Mateo County Immunization Program is located within Family Health Services (FHS). Five FHS positions are partially funded by the CDPHIZB Program to support immunization-related outreach to elementary, middle, and high schools; childcare centers; training for pediatricians; reviews and assessments of Child Health and Disability Program providers; the perinatal hepatitis B prevention project; and participation in the California Automated Immunization Registry.

This grant agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel. This agreement is late due to a CDPH delay in providing the grant award.
