BACKGROUND:
Your Board has adopted similar resolutions designating parking restrictions.

Section 22506 et al. of the California Vehicle Code and Section 7.52.010 of the County of San Mateo Ordinance Code provides that local authorities may prohibit or restrict the stopping, parking or standing of vehicles by resolution or ordinance within its respective jurisdictions on a state highway if the resolution or ordinance establishing said restrictions are first submitted and approved in writing by the Department of Transportation (CalTrans).

The Department of Public Works (Department) received a request from the owner of Chantilly Restaurant for parking restrictions on El Camino Real at the corner of East Selby Lane in the unincorporated area of Redwood City.

Residents have complained about restaurant patrons often parking in the nearby neighborhood. The 'Passenger Loading Zone During Specified Hours' is required as part of the mitigation measure for re-opening the restaurant.

DISCUSSION:
The Department has evaluated the request and determined that the recommended parking restriction is warranted and will benefit the community. The Department recommends a parking restriction on El Camino Real at the corner of East Selby Lane, in the unincorporated area of Redwood City.
