BACKGROUND:
The National SafeCare(r) and Research Center (NSTRC), founded in 2007 by the Georgia State University Research Foundation (GSURF), is a research and evidenced based parenting education program for families with children ages zero to five that addresses risk factors for child abuse and neglect through three modules: the parent-child relationship, home safety, and child health. Under the SafeCare(r) model, certified providers work with parents or caregivers of children who are at-risk of or reported for child maltreatment and are taught how to interact in a positive manner with their children, recognize hazards in the home, and recognize and respond to symptoms of illness and injury.

The Human Services Agency's (HSA) Children and Family Services branch (CFS) and San Mateo County Health's Family Health Services (FHS) division would like to collaboratively enter into an agreement with the GSURF to provide SafeCare(r) training to staff and implement the SafeCare(r) model in San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:
This Agreement will provide SafeCare(r) certification training to CFS and FHS staff that specifically serve child welfare clients. GSURF will provide two levels of SafeCare(r) training including: provider training to prepare staff to provide in-home services using the SafeCare...
