ABAG was established in 1961 and is the oldest Council of Governments in California. It is the designated regional planning agency for the San Francisco Bay Area and its members include all nine counties and approximately 100 cities in the region. ABAG addresses land use, housing, environmental quality and economic development issues.
DISCUSSION:
The ABAG Board recommends the annual budget and summary work programs of the Association for adoption by the General Assembly; appoints, fixes the salary of, and removes the Executive Director; acts on recommendations from committees for policy decisions and carries out policy decisions made by the General Assembly. Representatives and alternates from member counties are appointed by that County's Board of Supervisors.
On July 24, 2018, Supervisor Warren Slocum was appointed for the term of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020 by the Board of Supervisors as an Alternate to the ABAG Executive Board. He will replace Supervisor David Canepa in the Representative position on the Executive Board for the remainder of the two-year term.
