BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical and dental care to its medically indigent population and access to services to its general population. Dr. Oka has been providing oral and maxillofacial surgery services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since May 2008 and will continue to provide, at a minimum, the same level of service as he has under previous contracts with the County.

DISCUSSION:
SMMC has a continuous need for oral and maxillofacial services due to the County's aging population. SMMC will continue to meet this need through contracts with Dr. Oka and other dental surgeons. Dr. Oka has agreed to provide necessary surgery, clinic, and call coverage for SMMC patients.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing access to oral and maxillofacial surgery services to County residents.
