Recommendation for the appointment of Monica Colondres to the San Mateo County Civil Service Commission, for a term ending December 31, 2020.

BACKGROUND:
The Civil Service Commission consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one member from each supervisorial district. Traditionally, each member of the Board of Supervisors has selected the Commissioner from his or her supervisorial district, subject to the approval of the entire Board of Supervisors.
DISCUSSION:
Ms. Colondres spent much of her working career at the San Mateo County Transit District, beginning as a bus operator to eventually serving as Director of Human Resources. Since her retirement after 38 years of public service, Ms. Colondres has become an independent labor arbitrator/mediator working to resolve labor and employee grievances. Her background is thus well-aligned with the work of the Civil Service Commission.
This appointment contributes to the 2025 Shared Vision statement of a Collaborative Community. Our diverse population works well together to build strong communities, effective government and a prosperous economy. Civic engagement through voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism and participation in public discussions of important issues is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.
