Recommendation for the appointment of Monika Lee to the Commission on Aging, for a partial term ending June 30, 2021.

BACKGROUND:

The mission of the San Mateo County Commission on Aging (CoA) is to improve the quality of life for seniors in San Mateo County through the promotion of independence, self-sufficiency, mental and physical health, as well as community involvement.

 

DISCUSSION:

Ms. Lee has a J.D. and Ph.D. in Economics and has been a practicing attorney since 1984, currently employed at Lee Law Offices in San Mateo. Before attending law school, she was an instructor of Economics at the University of Kansas. She is a current commissioner in San Mateo, on Senior Citizens Commission, a member of the board of Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County (OSSMC), and was a director of the Beresford Hillsdale Neighborhood Association. She participates in Citizenship workshops where we assist with completion of applications for US Citizenship. Ms. Lee is being recommended to serve a partial term to a seat which was vacated mid-term by Deborah Gatzek Kratter.

 

This appointment contributes to the 2025 Shared Vision statement of a Collaborative Community. Our diverse population works well together to build strong communities, effective government and a prosperous economy, civic engagement - including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues - is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.
