body

BACKGROUND:

The Planning Commission serves the County and its communities by preparing, administering, and enforcing land use plans and development regulations that protect public safety, preserve agricultural and environmental resources, address housing and transportation needs, and create healthy and prosperous communities, in a manner that fosters community engagement and provides exceptional levels of service.  Pursuant to the San Mateo County Ordinance Code, a Commissioner shall be appointed to the Planning Commission from each of the County’s five supervisorial Districts.

As per the bylaws for the Commission, the term of office for each member shall coincide with the term of the office of the Supervisor of the supervisorial district in which the member resides, with each term being a 4-year term, for a maximum of 12 years. Supervisor Don Horsley’s final term ends in January of 2023.

DISCUSSION:

Supervisor Don Horsley recommends the appointment of Lisa Ketcham to serve as the District 3 representative to the San Mateo County Planning Commission.

Lisa Ketcham is filling a seat vacated by Zoe Kersteen-Tucker which has an existing term ending January 2022. Lisa Ketcham has lived on the coastside for over 20 years and has been an active member of the San Mateo County Midcoast Community Council for seven years. Her ability to analyze planning matters keeping in mind the perspective of the local community and the region as well as her attention to detail make her well suited to serve as a Planning Commissioner.

This appointment contributes to the 2025 Shared Vision statement of a Collaborative Community. Our diverse population works well together to build strong communities, effective government and a prosperous economy, civic engagement - including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues - is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.
