body

BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to reducing alcohol related incidents in communities we serve by utilizing a variety of techniques including education and enforcement.

DISCUSSION:

To fund additional efforts to reduce alcohol related incidents, the Sheriff’s Office, through its dedicated grant liaison, applied to the Department of Alcoholic Beverages (ABC) for a monetary grant.  The Sheriff’s Office was awarded the 2018 Standard Agreement STD 213 ABC grant of $40,000.00, for a period commencing July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

The Sheriff’s Office will use a combination of surveillance and on-view enforcement of violations to curb the sales of alcohol to intoxicated subjects.  The staff will determine if there are other violations previously unreported to law enforcement taking place in ABC licensed establishments. These activities could include, but are not be limited to, service of intoxicated patrons, prostitution, and illegal gambling.  The assigned staff on all ABC grant operations will work closely with other city officials and business owners to ensure proper education and adherence to law.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

Approval of this grant award contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Safe Neighborhood by assisting in the education and prevention of illegal alcohol sales.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The 2018 ABC grant award is for $40,000, commencing July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, and is included in the Sheriff’s Adopted Budget. This grant does not require matching County funds and there is no Net County Cost.
