BACKGROUND:

The Board of Supervisors previously approved a contract with CML Construction on January 23, 2018 (Resolution No. 075691), for the maintenance and installation of safety equipment at the Maguire Correctional Facility and the Maple Street Correctional Center. 

 

In order to meet requirements of a new federal mandate for prevention of sexual assaults of inmates (PREA), it is recommended that additional security cameras and an overhead public announcement system be installed at the Maple Street Correctional Center and the Maguire Correctional Facility.

 

DISCUSSION:

The objective of this request is to provide enhanced treatment, safety, and security at the Maple Street Correctional Center and the Maguire Correctional Facility and. The additional security cameras will enable the Sheriff’s Office to address new federal requirements and provide increased safety of both staff and inmates within the correctional facilities.

 

The Resolution and agreement have been reviewed and approved as to form by County Counsel.

 

This agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Safe Community by providing additional treatment for inmates, reducing costs, and providing safety for the community by enhancing prevention or identification of possible criminal behavior occurring in the Maguire Correctional Facility and Maple Street Correctional Center.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The amendment to the agreement with CML Construction increases the amount by $110,413.32, which has been included in the Sheriff's Office FY 2018-19 Adopted Budget.
