RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing an amendment to the agreement with CML Construction, increasing the amount by $15,705.05 to an amount not to exceed $105,404.96 and extending the term of the agreement to June 30, 2019.

body

BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office previously authorized a contract with CML Construction for the purchase and installation of twenty-three steel doors at the Maguire Correctional Facility.  These steel doors replaced the original wood doors on a housing unit as part of an upgrade to the unit to serve mentally ill inmates.  This contract is now being amended to include the purchase and installation of two additional steel doors to be installed in the intake area at the Maguire Correctional Facility.  These doors will replace two doors and their locking mechanisms that have been damaged and have reached the end of their useful life after 25 years.

DISCUSSION:

The objective of this request is to provide enhanced treatment, safety and security within the Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facilities. The additional steel doors will reduce costs for service, increase the safety of staff, and protect against possible jail escapes.  The purchase is being made through CML Construction to keep consistency throughout the facility. The Resolution and agreement have been reviewed and approved as to form by County Counsel.

This agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Safe Community by providing additional treatment for inmates, reducing costs, and providing safety for the community by enhancing prevention or identification of possible criminal behavior occurring in the Maguire Correctional Facility.
