RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an amendment to the agreement with Prevent Life Safety, extending the term through January 1, 2021 and increasing the maximum fiscal obligation by $141,000, to a new not to exceed amount of $239,000.

body
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works (Department) is required to annually inspect fire doors at the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) and repair any door that fails the inspection. The Department entered into a service agreement with Prevent Life Safety on January 2, 2018 to inspect, repair and recertify 731 fire doors at SMMC for two years.

DISCUSSION:
A significant number of doors failed a recent inspection and require repair at SMMC. Due to the failed inspection, the estimated repair cost is approximately $105,000, exceeding the current contract amount. The proposed amendment will increase the current contract amount by $141,000, which includes sufficient authority to repair and re-certify all fire doors that failed the inspection and maintain all doors in a serviceable condition for an additional two years. The amendment will increase the total, not-to exceed amount to $239,000 and the term of the agreement will be extended from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021, for a total of three years.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

Approval of this amendment contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by ensuring patients and employees at SMMC have safe and accessible fire doors to allow them an exit route from the dangers of smoke inhalation and fire.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for this agreement is included in the Department of Public Works FY2018-19 Adopted Budget. There is no additional impact to the General ...
