BACKGROUND:
Since July 2008, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) has contracted with the City of Redwood City (City of RWC) to provide alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention services as part of the RWC 2020 healthy community partnership. These youth- and family-focused services include community capacity building, community education and awareness, and prevention efforts in the Redwood City and North Fair Oaks area.

In January 2017, BHRS issued a Request for Proposals for community-based partnerships to provide AOD substance use prevention services. Community-based partnerships sustain effective AOD prevention efforts in the County's six geographical community service areas (CSA's) as identified by BHRS: 1) Northwest CSA: Daly City, Pacifica, and Colma; 2) Northeast CSA: Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae; 3) Coastside CSA: Half Moon Bay, La Honda, and Pescadero; 4) Central CSA: Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo, Foster City and Belmont; 5) South CSA: San Carlos, Redwood City, Woodside, Atherton, West Menlo Park, and Portola Valley; and 6) East Palo Alto CSA: East Menlo Park and East Palo Alto. These partnerships are cooperative agreements with community stakeholders who are committed to providing a variety of AOD prevention strategies in their community. The City of RWC submitted a proposal and was chosen to provide these services in the South CSA.
