BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works (Department) is responsible for contracting with an elevator maintenance service provider to maintain the elevator systems and escalators throughout the County building portfolio.

The Department entered into a service agreement with ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corporation on November 18, 2014, to provide elevator and escalator maintenance and repair services for 49 elevators and two escalators at various County facilities. The current agreement with ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corporation expires on January 31, 2018.

On September 26, 2017, your Board adopted Resolution No. 075483 which added eight new elevators to the maintenance agreement at the following medical facilities; Maple Street Correctional Center, Coastside Clinic, and 306 Spruce Street Clinic. This increased the total number of elevators covered under the maintenance agreement to 57, with the number of escalators remaining the same, at two.

On December 13, 2018, the Department executed an amendment, increasing the contract by the $25,000 contingency amount, to a new, not-to-exceed amount of $673,184 to cover the cost of additional calls for service outside the normal maintenance agreement.

DISCUSSION:
The Department is currently in the procurement process for a contractor to provide County-wide elevator and escalator maintenance and repair services. The term extension and additional funding will allow continuation of service by Thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation while th...
