BACKGROUND:

On Monday, October 9, 2017, at approximately 0400 hours, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office-Area Office of Emergency Services received a request for a Multi-County Regional Mutual Aid deployment. The request was for a mobilization response which consisted of 50 Law Enforcement Officers from our Area of Responsibility (AOR) to assist with evacuations and traffic control for the fires in Napa and Sonoma Counties.

The County of San Mateo deployed a total of 725 law enforcement officers, supervisors, and managers and supported the 24 hour a day mutual aid request for 11 days straight. All law enforcement agencies in San Mateo County participated in the mutual aid response. The mutual aid support began on Monday, October 9, 2017, from 0500 hours and lasted through Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 2000 hours.

The Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services provided additional assistance by sending a Law Liaison Deputy Sheriff to each San Mateo County Law Enforcement Team. The San Mateo County OES Director was deployed for two shifts and represented San Mateo County at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Napa and Santa Rosa.  A San Mateo County OES District Coordinator also responded to assist at the EOC in Santa Rosa, assisting with the re-entry of survivors to the burned areas.

Sheriff Bolanos was honored to assist the regional counties affected by the fires and is appreciative of this special recognition given to San Mateo County law enforcement responders by Sheriff Robertson.
