BACKGROUND:
Podiatry serves as the basis for the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions, including heel spurs, hammer toes, bunions, general foot trauma, and chronic systemic disorders that commonly have associated foot problems. Dr. Richard Woo has provided podiatry surgery and clinic services to San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for many years.

DISCUSSION:
Given SMMC's continuous need for podiatry services, Dr. Woo offers SMMC the benefit of an experienced practitioner familiar with the complex nature of the County's patient base. This contract will provide for professional podiatry surgery services and podiatry clinic services (in the form of half-day clinics) at SMMC and various satellite clinics. Clinic days will be expanded by two additional days per week to provide podiatry services at the Coastside Clinic and North County Clinic.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
