BACKGROUND:
An unexpected vacancy opened on the Midcoast Community Council (MCC) due to the resignation of Laura Stein. The sitting members of the MCC subsequently interviewed candidates who expressed interest in being appointed to the vacant seat. They forwarded their recommendation on to Supervisor Don Horsley, who selected the name of candidate Barbra Mathewson to forward to the Board of Supervisors for confirmation. She was the primary recommendation from the MCC.
DISCUSSION:
Because the vacancy on the MCC is in the middle of a term, it was deemed acceptable to submit a candidate for appointment approved by the remaining members of the MCC to fill out the remainder of the term, which will expire December 9, 2020. Barbra Mathewson currently lives in Moss Beach, and has lived on the coast her entire adult life. Recently retired from Pacific Gas & Electric, she has been actively attending the Midcoast Community Council meetings and looks forward to joining the council.
This appointment continues to show the collaborative relationship between the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the Midcoast Community Council.
