RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing an amendment to the agreement with ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corporation, increasing the maximum fiscal obligation by $100,000, to a new not-to-exceed amount of $648,184, and extending the term to January 31, 2018.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Public Works entered into a service agreement with ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corporation on November 18, 2014, to provide elevator and escalator maintenance and repair services for 49 elevators and two escalators at various County facilities. The current agreement with ThyssenKrupp expires on November 30, 2017.

DISCUSSION:

The Department of Public Works’ Facilities Maintenance and Operations Section (FMO) is responsible for contracting with an elevator maintenance service provider to maintain the elevator systems and escalators throughout the County building portfolio.  The Department has added three additional buildings to the facilities inventory management; Maple Street Correctional Center, Coastside Clinic, and 306 Spruce Street Clinic and needs to include an additional eight elevators to the maintenance agreement with ThyssenKrupp.  The Department requests $100,000 in additional funding to add the new elevators to the maintenance agreement and extend the current agreement an additional two months.  The contract extension will allow sufficient time for the Department to evaluate the County’s long-term elevator maintenance and service repair needs.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.  The Contract Compliance Committee has approved the term extension.

Approval of this amendment contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Livable Community by maintaining elevators for the benefit of the public and employees using County facilities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The amendment will increase the current contract by $100,000 to a new, not-to-exceed amount of $648,184 and extend the term an additional two months to January 31, 2018.  Funding for this agreement is included in the Department of Public Works Fiscal Year 2017-18 Adopted Recommended Budget. There is no additional impact to the General Fund.
