BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo County Resource Conservation District (RCD) is a non-regulatory, public agency that works in partnership with landowners/managers and provides technical support for restoration projects that achieve watershed protection goals. In 2015, San Mateo County Parks and the RCD signed a Stewardship Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for coordinating projects within the Pescadero Creek County Park Complex. One of the projects identified is the Old Haul Road Sediment Reduction Project.

Old Haul Road is a legacy logging road now used for recreation, access for emergency response and fire protection, and access to privately owned timber property. The Dark Gulch Creek crossing on this road has been showing signs of failure and actively contributing sediment to Pescadero Creek. County Parks initiated work to address these impacts in cooperation with the RCD in Phase I of the project.
