RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Andrew J. Maxell, MD to provide pediatric cardiology services for the term of September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2019, in an amount not to exceed $200,000.

body
BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) has a continuing need for pediatric cardiology services. Dr. Andrew J. Maxwell has been providing these services at SMMC since 2002. Participation by SMMC in the Healthy Kids Program through Health Plan of San Mateo has resulted in an increase in the number of pediatric patients being referred for cardiology services.

DISCUSSION:
Dr. Maxwell will continue to provide pediatric cardiology services at SMMC. He will provide half-day pediatric cardiology clinics as requested by the Chief Medical Officer. This agreement is coming to your Board late due to protracted negotiations.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing pediatric cardiology services to residents of San Mateo County. It is anticipated that 100% of all pediatric cardiology patients referred through the Healthy Kids Program will be evaluated and referred as appropriate for follow-up treatment.
