BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This includes services for oncology disorders and the management and supervision of those services. The County's need for these services is increasing due to the aging of its patient population.

DISCUSSION:
Dr. Bains will provide up to six half-day clinics per week to provide inpatient hematology and oncology consults. In addition, Dr. Bains will provide call coverage 15 days per month.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing San Mateo County residents with access to hematology and oncology services. It is anticipated that there will be a 10% reduction in outside referrals for Hematology/Oncology.
