Adopt a resolution authorizing the Chief Elections Officer to render specified election services for the Town of Atherton in conjunction with a special election to be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Section 10002 of the California Elections Code, the governing body of any city or district may request the Board of Supervisors of the County to permit the County’s Chief Elections Officer to render specified services to the city or district relating to the conduct of an election. Subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors, these services shall be performed by the County’s Chief Elections Officer.

 

The City Council of the Town of Atherton issued a Resolution calling for a measure to be submitted to voters on June 6, 2017. 

 

DISCUSSION:

The request of the governing body of the above-mentioned Town is proper, the County’s Chief Elections Officer is agreeable to providing the specified elections services as requested, and all related costs will be reimbursed by the requesting Town. 

 

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

 

Approval of this resolution contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 of a Collaborative Community. The measure offered by the town affords the voters the decision to determine whether taxpayer funds should be utilized in the construction of a new Town Center.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no net County cost. All costs for election services will be reimbursed by the Town of Atherton.
