BACKGROUND:
Section 2121 of the California Streets and Highways Code requires that in May of each year, each county shall report to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) "any additions or exclusions from its mileage of maintained county highways." This report typically takes the form of a certification of the total mileage of the County of San Mateo's (County's) maintained road system. The County reported to Caltrans in May 2022 that the total County maintained road system mileage as of December 31, 2021, was 316.322. This Board has adopted similar resolutions directing the reporting of the total number of maintained miles in previous years.
DISCUSSION:
This year, the proposed total County maintained mileage as of December 31, 2022, to be reported to Caltrans in May 2023 is 316.322 miles. There were no changes to the County's maintained road system during 2022.
Exhibit "A" to the resolution provides the summary of the County of San Mateo Maintained Road Mileage, as of December 31, 2022.
The County of San Mateo is expected to receive $15,900,000 in gas tax revenue and $11,500,000 in Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account related Senate Bill 1 funding for FY 2022-23. The Department of Public Works uses these funds to maintain the County of San Mateo's road system for the benefit of the traveling public.
County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.
FISCAL IMPACT:
