BACKGROUND:
Domestic violence impacts thousands of San Mateo County residents each year and is a public health and safety concern. Domestic violence victims fleeing abuse may require confidential emergency shelter to leave a dangerous situation and begin rebuilding their lives safely. CORA runs the only confidential residential safehouse facility ("safehouse") for domestic violence survivors and their children in San Mateo County. The safehouse is a 28-bed facility in an undisclosed location and operates 365 days per year, providing survivors of domestic violence and their families with confidential residential shelter, meals, case management, safety planning, and systems navigation (courts, law enforcement, child protective services, immigration, and public benefits) to help survivors recover on their own terms.

During the FY 2025-2026 Measure K budget process, the Board of Supervisors allocated funds to support domestic violence prevention and response services in San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:
Approval of this grant will formalize a one-year grant between the County of San Mateo and CORA to provide confidential residential safehouse management and support services.
