BACKGROUND:
The Commission is charged with the responsibility of assessing the needs of women, girls and families in the County. The Commission also acts as a resource to the Board of Supervisors (the “Board”) and makes recommendations to the Board annually.
DISCUSSION:
Maya Lis Tussing has served on the Commission since taking an initial partial term in August 2018, and is being recommended for a reappointment of her first full term.
Maya Tussing has lived in the Bay Area for 25 years, half of that time in San Mateo County. She co-leads the West Coast presence of Alesco Advisors, an SEC-registered investment advisory firm servicing the investment needs of nonprofits, foundations and endowments. Over the last 20 years, Maya has held senior risk management roles at firms such as BlackRock, Barclays Global Investors, Visa, and GE Capital. Additionally, she has coached hundreds of men and women at all levels of for-profit and nonprofit organizations to achieve personal and professional success and satisfaction. She is an active nonprofit board member and volunteer to local organizations spanning the areas of education, community services, health care and the performing arts. Maya is a graduate of Pomona College and holds an MBA in international finance from the University of Washington. She currently lives in Belmont with her husband and daughter.
