BACKGROUND:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program under the Climate Adaptation Planning category is intended to support local and regional identification of transportation-related climate vulnerabilities through the development of climate adaptation plans as well as project-level adaptation planning to identify adaptation projects and strategies for transportation infrastructure.

The County of San Mateo (County) has been conditionally approved to receive a Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant in the amount of $515,000 to be spent within two years of award. The grant funds will be leveraged by the County's Department of Public Works (Department) and will support the San Mateo County Transportation Infrastructure and Resilience Improvement Plan (Plan). The Plan will enhance transportation infrastructure by addressing climate vulnerabilities by engaging with residents and businesses, including people experiencing poverty and communities that include people with lower incomes, to identify, prioritize, and plan improvements for local roads and public transit.
