BACKGROUND:
In January 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the California Master Plan for Aging, which is aimed at preparing America's most populous state for a massive demographic change over the coming decade. By 2030, 10.8 million Californian's will be age 60 or over. This constitutes approximately 25 percent of the state's population. The Master Plan for Aging promotes an age-friendly California for all and lays out five goals including: housing for all stages and ages; health reimagined; inclusion and equity, not isolation; caregiving that works; and affording aging. The third goal, inclusion and equity, not isolation, incorporates participation in the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Age-Friendly initiative.

On December 14, 2021 the County entered into a grant agreement (the "Agreement") with the Los Altos Community Foundation for the benefit of the Center for Age-Friendly Excellence.
