BACKGROUND:
On December 1, 1981, the Board approved the first agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to initiate the insect Pest Detection Trapping Program. The agreement has been renewed each year. The statewide insect pest detection trapping program protects the agricultural industry, home gardens, and the environment by providing early detection of exotic state regulated pests that may be introduced into California.

DISCUSSION:
The County will receive $678,702 under agreement #24-0132-034-SF as reimbursement for personnel hours expended on the Pest Detection Trapping Program activities during FY 2024-25. San Mateo County pest detection program staff place and monitor 543 Mediterranean fruit fly traps, and 2,376 other pest traps per year (e.g. Japanese beetle, Spongy moth, Oriental fruit fly, and Melon fly).
