body

BACKGROUND:

The Emergency Medical Care Committee (EMCC) is an advisory body which reviews the County’s emergency medical services (EMS) system and provides observations and recommendations to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the local Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMS Agency).

The EMCC consists of 20 members appointed by the Board, for terms of four years, for up to three consecutive terms. Among EMCC’s 20 members, it must have, among other requirements: Five (5) consumer representatives who have no pecuniary or professional interest in emergency medical care, and whose primary residence is in San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:

Rosemary Welde is being recommended for appointment to the EMCC for a Consumer position formerly held by Robert Nice, which carries an existing partial term ending March 31, 2026.

Ms. Welde brings a distinguished background as a registered nurse with over 50 years of experience in health care, including extensive service in emergency, trauma, and operating room management with Stanford Health Care. She has remained active in community service through her involvement with wildfire safety education programs and volunteer work with Alliance for Smiles, local retiree organizations, and nonprofit boards.

Her combination of professional expertise in emergency medicine and broad civic engagement makes her well-suited to represent San Mateo County residents as a Consumer member of the EMCC.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
