Subject: Introduction of Ordinance Regulating Wurr Road Bridge Weight Limits
RECOMMENDATION:
title
Introduction of an ordinance amending Section 7.48.040 of the County of San Mateo Ordinance Code regulating the weight limits on County Bridge No. 50 -- Wurr Road Bridge, and waive the reading of the ordinance in its entirety.
body
BACKGROUND:
Your Board adopted Ordinance 03015 in 1984 which introduced Section 7.48.040 of the County of San Mateo Ordinance Code to provide weight restrictions when Wurr Road Bridge was in poor condition. Section 7.48.040 designated weight limits of vehicles and loads upon County Bridge No. 50, situated on Wurr Road (County Road No. 80) and crossing Pescadero Creek reducing limits to nine tons per vehicle, 14 tons per semitrailer combination, and 18 tons per truck and full trailer.
Wurr Road Bridge was repaired in 1997 and a 2007 Caltrans bridge inspection recommended the load be increased to 15 tons per vehicle, 22 tons per semitrailer combination, and 24 tons per truck and full trailer. New weight limit signs were posted on the bridge in 2007.
DISCUSSION:
A 2018 Caltrans Bridge Inspection Report confirmed the current posted weight limits. Caltrans is now seeking acknowledgement of the upgraded load limits for this bridge. The proposed ordinance that will supersede Ordinance No. 03015’s revisions will document the postings.
County Counsel has reviewed and approved the ordinance as to form.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Staff time necessary to update Section 7.48.040 of the County of San Mateo Ordinance Code is funded by the Road Fund.
There will be no impact to the General Fund.
