RECOMMENDATION:

title

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) transferring funding from Departmental Reserves in the amount of $381,245 for the construction of the fourth floor of the new County Office Building 3 building.

body

BACKGROUND:

County Office Building 3 (COB3) is described by the Project Development Unit as the new cutting-edge home of the San Mateo County employees and is located in the heart of historic Redwood City. The nearly 208,000 square foot building is constructed of Mass Timber featuring wood columns, beams, and Cross Laminated Timber floor decks. The timber frame criterion was selected for structural and environmental benefits as wood dramatically lowers the building’s carbon footprint by reducing the reliance on structural steel and concrete. The building was also designed to be “Net Zero” energy as a reflection of the County’s commitment to sustainability.

DISCUSSION:

The Office of the County Attorney is requesting that this Board authorize the County Attorney to utilize departmental reserve funding in its budget to cover the one-time costs for construction work associated with the Office’s move into COB3.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no impact to Net County Cost.
