BACKGROUND:
On November 8, 2021, the Board approved Resolution No. 078509 authorizing an agreement with Environmental Innovations, Inc. (EI) to recruit, coordinate, and certify local businesses as green for the term of November 9, 2021 to November 8, 2024, in an amount not to exceed $678,000. On August 3, 2022, a no-cost amendment was executed to expand the certification outreach efforts to businesses in socially vulnerable and/or low-income areas using enhanced cultural and linguistic outreach services. The contract term was not changed.

The San Mateo County Green Business Program (Program) is a certification program that provides extensive free consulting and support to small- and medium-sized businesses, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and government offices to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. It was established in 2007 as a pilot program and has since evolved to offer a comprehensive suite of resources, technical and marketing support, and certification services designed to help businesses adopt sustainable practices. The Program is implemented countywide and is part of the California Green Business Program.
