Adopt a resolution authorizing the acceptance of an award from the California Department of Public Health Tuberculosis Control Branch (CDPH-TB) to provide tuberculosis prevention and control activities, for the term of July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, in an amount not to exceed $271,769.

BACKGROUND:
Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs and respiratory system, though it can invade any organ. TB can spread through the air when a person with active TB coughs or sneezes, but it is curable with proper treatment. CDPH-TB provides funding to assist jurisdictions in performing TB control activities. The San Mateo County TB Control Program provides case management for all active and latent TB cases throughout their treatment, case and contact investigation, home and worksite investigations, Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) and Video Directly Observed Therapy (VDOT) for all cases. Additionally, CDPH requires all local health jurisdictions (LHJ) to follow up on TB screening reports from Civil Surgeons for individuals applying to adjust their immigration status. LHJ also must monitor individuals requiring TB screening follow-up for all immigration-related Class B TB waiver cases. San Mateo County has one of the highest numbers of tuberculosis cases in California, ranking sixth due to the large foreign-born population living in San Mateo County, who come from countries where TB is endemic. These activities are essential to the prevention and control of TB in the community.
