BACKGROUND:

The Arts Commission was created to promote and encourage the arts, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, to prepare and update the County’s strategic and cultural plan, and act as a liaison with arts organizations in order to ensure collaboration and coordination related to culture and art activities in San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:

Jeanne Heise began serving on the Arts Commission in 2018 for an initial partial term, and is being recommended to serve a first full term representing District 4. This full term will be from January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024 upon approval of this reappointment.

Since Jeanne’s initial appointment in 2018, her contributions on the Arts Commission include participating in the Veterans and First Responders Memorial, and as a Grants Review Panel member for 2020 COVID-19 Relief Grants. Currently, Jeanne is also the Docent Chair of the 51-member organization of Stanford University’s Cantor Arts Center and is also the secretary of its steering committee. Jeanne’s work with the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco (de Young and Legion of Honor Museums), includes leading tours, and completion of a 14-week Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Accessibility Training earlier this year.

Prior to her time on the Arts Commission, Jeanne was a board member on Art in Action of Menlo Park, California, directing a development campaign to bring arts education to elementary and middle school children.
