BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo Health Commission negotiates exclusive contracts with the California Department of Health Care Services to arrange for the provision of health care services to qualifying individuals.

DISCUSSION:

At the recommendation of the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for confirmation by the Board of Supervisors, Dr. Alpa Sanghavi is being recommended to represent the SMMC Physician Representative seat for an initial full 4-year term effective January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2029. The seat was formerly held by Dr. Jeanette Aviles, who has served the maximum number of terms per the Commission bylaws.

Dr. Sanghavi is the Chief Quality and Experience Officer at San Mateo Medical Center and also serves the organization as a practicing hospitalist physician. Dr. Sanghavi joined San Mateo Medical Center in 1999. Her clinical experience combined with her extensive experience in quality and patient experience make her an excellent candidate for this role on the Health Commission. SMMC CEO Chester Kunnappilly adds that she would not only be an excellent representative for San Mateo Medical Center but would also be a tremendous asset to the Commission.
