Adopt a resolution authorizing the acceptance of an award from the California Department of Public Health STD Control Branch for STD program management and collaboration projects, for the term of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024, in an amount not to exceed $848,850.

BACKGROUND:
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) surveillance data indicate that over the past five years, there were continued increases in infectious syphilis, congenital syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia trachomatis infections across the State. The purpose of this grant is to implement public health activities to monitor, investigate, and prevent STDs in collaboration with community-based organizations within San Mateo County. Funds allocated to San Mateo County shall be used to conduct routine, universal testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia among people who are incarcerated in county juvenile correctional facilities; and to conduct or ensure the provision of routine, universal testing for syphilis among people who are incarcerated in county jails with a positivity of 2% or more.
DISCUSSION:
Funding from this award will be used to offset the cost of 0.17 FTE Registered Nurse (RN) with the Correctional Health division who will provide routine, universal opt-out urine gonorrhea and chlamydia screening for all incarcerated individuals. The RN will also provide routine, universal opt-out syphilis screening to females of child-bearing age; 18-45 years old. Funding from this award will also be used to offset the cost of testing.
