Recommendation for the appointment of George Michael Barber to the Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) for a four-year term effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2025.

BACKGROUND:
BAWSCA was created on May 27, 2003, to represent the interests of 24 cities and water districts, and two private utilities, in Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties that purchase water on a wholesale basis from the San Francisco regional water system.
The two private utilities that have appointees to the BAWSCA board are Stanford University and California Water Service Company. California Water Code section 81336(c)(1) provides that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County shall appoint one member to the board who is an officer or employee of the California Water Service Company.
DISCUSSION:
On February 9, 2021, Robert Kuta was reappointed to serve a term effective July 1, 2021 to the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency. Since then, Mr. Kuta notified BAWSCA that he will not be able to serve after his current term ends June 30, 2021. The California Water Service Company and BAWSCA are requesting that Mr. George Michael Barber be appointed to the BAWSCA board as the officer or employee representative. Upon Board approval, this appointment is for the term of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2025.
George Barber joined California Water Service in 2017 and serves as a Director of Operations leading the companies of Stockton, Chico, Oroville, Marysville, Willows and Redwood Valley Districts. George is a Registered Civil Engineer and graduate of California State University, Chico. He holds T4 and D4 operations licenses from the State of California.
