BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo County Community Action Agency Board (SMC-CAAB) oversees the Community Action Agency, the role of which is to provide oversight and direction regarding the use of Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding. The San Mateo County Human Services Agency administers the CSBG grants and contracts in consultation with the SMC-CAAB.

The SMC-CAAB by-laws state that one third of the Board Members shall be elected public officials or their representatives, in one or more of the following categories to represent the public sector perspective on the Board:

* Member(s) of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors;
* Member(s) of the Town or City Council of any town or city located in San Mateo County.

The SMC-CAAB by-laws also state that the Board of Supervisors is responsible for selecting and appointing the public sector representatives.

The Board currently has a vacancy for a public sector appointee.

DISCUSSION:
Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who serves as the Board of Supervisors' representative to the SMC-CAAB, recommends the appointment of Gina Latimerlo, who currently serves as Councilmember of the City of Belmont, as a public sector representative.

Councilmember Gina Latimerlo is invested in the City of Belmont and San Mateo County. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Notre Dame de Namur University and settled in Belmont after graduating from the university.
