BACKGROUND:
On March 26, 2024, this Board approved recommendations for Measure K funding allocations in the priority areas of Children, Families, and Seniors; Housing and Homelessness; and Emergency Preparedness. The Board concurrently approved Second Harvest of Silicon Valley's application for Measure K funding pursuant to the FY 2024-25 Measure K Notice of Funding Opportunity in the amount of $2 million to provide food assistance services to low-income residents of San Mateo County. The Board's resolution authorized the County Executive to negotiate agreements with approved applicants like Second Harvest and return to this Board for approval of the contracts.

On June 25, 2024, this Board approved the FY 2024-25 Recommended Budget, which included the Measure K allocation for FY 2024-25.

DISCUSSION:
Second Harvest is a nonprofit organization that operates a food bank dedicated to ensuring that anyone in Silicon Valley who needs a healthy meal gets one. Second Harvest's mission is to end hunger, distributing food through a network of sites in San Mateo County, including to residents who have incomes below 275% of the Federal Poverty Level. Second Harvest serves 500,000 people every month, including providing home delivery to 5,300 households.
