BACKGROUND:
On December 13, 2022, this Board approved an agreement with Epic Systems Corporation (Epic) to provide the Electronic Health Medical Record (EHR) system for San Mateo County Health (SMCH). With the implementation of the new EHR system, County Health must contract directly with a vendor to provide E-prescribing, Electronic Prior Authorization, and Real-Time Prescription Benefits.

DISCUSSION:
To ensure the successful implementation of Epic, SMCH's new integrated EHR, it is necessary to secure a vendor with the proven knowledge, experience, and access to resources around Epic process and that has a broad background in Epic implementations. SMCH/Health Information Technology (HIT) completed a Request for Proposals (RFP) in June 2023 for E-prescribing, Electronic Prior Authorization, and Real-Time Prescription Benefits that meet the requirements of the new EHR system.

Surescripts, LLC (Surescripts) was elevated due to demonstrated integration experience with Epic, substantial references from similar public safety-net hospitals, and subject matter experts.

The County Attorney's Office has reviewed and approved the resolution and agreement as to form.
