BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County Health has been awarded the Health Care for the Homeless/Farmworker Health (HCH/FH) grant from the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Services and Resources Administration of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The grant funds San Mateo Medical Center's (SMMC) ongoing HCH/FH program, which is designed to assist homeless and farmworker adults, families, and youth with access to and utilization of SMMC's continuum of care and other medical, health and support services. In July 2024, the HCH/FH program completed a Request for Proposals for dental services for farmworkers and their dependents on the coast. Such services include diagnostic and preventative services, basic dental services, and major restorative services.

DISCUSSION:
Sonrisas Dental Health was elevated due to their longstanding commitment to providing affordable, high-quality dental care and oral health education to underserved populations in San Mateo County. Sonrisas was founded in 2001 to meet the needs of farmworkers and low-income residents. Sonrisas brings extensive experience delivering culturally competent, comprehensive dental services through its clinics in Half Moon Bay and San Mateo. In partnership with Puente de la Costa Sur, Sonrisas has also operated a weekly clinic in Pescadero/La Honda since 2018, providing critical dental care closer to patients' homes and workplaces.
